This graph shows a hyperbola and associated plots created by a
Maths Helper Plus conic data set in just a couple of key strokes:

These are the options for conic data sets in Maths Helper
Plus:
 | Select type and enter parameters to define a conic... |
You just select the type of conic from a list box, then enter
the parameters when prompted. You can keep the parameters the same, and see what
happens if you change to another conic type, eg from a hyperbola to an ellipse.
1. Parabolas:
y = ax² + bx + c, x = ay² + by + c, ( y -
k )² = 4a ( x - h ), ( x - h )² = 4a ( y - k )
2. Circles:
x² + y² = a², (x - h)² + (y - h)² = a², ax²
+ ay² + bx + cy + d = 0
3. Ellipses:
(x - h)² / a² + (y - k)² / b² =
1, (y - k)² / a² + (x - h)² / b² = 1
4. Hyperbolas:
(x - h)² / a² - (y - k)² / b² =
1, (y - k)² / a² - (x - h)² / b² = 1
 | Calculations |
For each type of conic, calculated values are displayed on
the text view. The parts of the conic can also be plotted. These are the
calculations displayed for each type of conic:
1. Parabolas:
vertex, focus, directrix, axis of symmetry, roots
2. Circles:
radius, centre, circumference, area
3. Ellipses:
eccentricity, foci, directrices, centre, 'a' and 'b'
4. Hyperbolas:
eccentricity, foci, directrices, asymptotes, centre, 'a' and
'b'
